Mini Cooper Cars

The Mini Cooper has been a favourite amongst Australian drivers for many years, thanks to its retro styling, go-kart handling and economical engines. But for those who want a bit more practicality and versatility from their Mini, there’s now a 4WD (4x4) option available.

With its all-wheel drive system, the Mini Cooper 4WD is better suited to Australian driving conditions than the standard front-wheel drive model. The extra traction provided by the rear wheels means it can handle wet roads, gravel tracks and even light off-roading with ease.

Under the bonnet is a choice of two engines: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Both are turbocharged for strong acceleration and good fuel economy, which is important given Australia’s long distances between towns and cities.

Inside, the Mini Cooper 4WD offers seating for up to four people in reasonable comfort, although taller adults may find headroom a little tight in the rear seats. The boot space is also smaller than some competitors in this segment, but still adequate for everyday use.

Standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There’s also automatic climate control, rear parking sensors and cruise control as standard across the range.

Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes as standard. Optional safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with collision warning and automatic emergency braking.

Overall, the Mini Cooper 4WD is an appealing option for those who love the distinctive styling of a Mini but need extra capability on rough roads or in bad weather conditions commonly experienced in certain parts of Australia. It’s not perfect – limited rear-seat space may be an issue for some – but its all-weather ability make it an excellent alternative to other compact cars that cannot boast of such adaptability.
